MACHINING TURBINES Type Francis

The GURI dam, located in central Venezuela near PUERTA ORDAZ is the third largest dam in the world and has 16 turbines. The Venezuelan government has decided to rehabilitate all the site’s installations in two phases, the first of which was entrusted to ALSTOM HYDRO. This rehabilitation concerns 8 groups out of a total of 16. Previously, the maintenance operations carried out at the GURI site had required the dismantling of damaged parts, their transport around the world to multiple workshops, their return to Venezuela and finally, the reassembly of the parts on site. All these operations involved very long response times.

In order to increase the efficiency of intervention, ALSTOM HYDRO has studied an innovative approach by proposing to carry out all services directly on the GURI site with portable machining equipment.

ALSTOM HYDRO, after study, entrusted TACQUET INDUSTRIE with the design and construction of two portable towers capable of machining up to 8.5 metres in diameter.

Summary of the intervention by TACQUET INDUSTRIE.

  • Design and construction of two portable towers with a diameter of 8.5 meters,
  • Development of special equipment,
  • Training of personnel working on the GURI site,
  • Participation in machining operations,
Machining of fixed parts in the well,
  • Machining of disassembled parts.
